Tue Jun 30 - Sad day for the torrent community

They lost in court, but I always thought ThePirateBay will always be there for us, giving the finger to anyone threatening to take them down ... It seems like this won't be the case anymore.

What do you think - is this a sign for the things to come, or is a show for the crowds - unaffecting the rest of the torrent sites/community?

A great way to finance the war for freedom of speech and freedom of information which we are in dire need of in sweden at this time. If they dont like the way the new site is run, they just start up thepiratebay2.com and continue as usual.

sad day? some of u need to read the articles more carefully. one cannot say what the future brings for tpb. i won't give up hope for a better future ;)

THE INTERNET IS ON FIRE!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!! Torrents are a sinking ship, I know quite a few private trackers that have/are switching to FTP sites. sad, sad day.

yes I am solely basing my opinion off of 1 private site switching to ftp, but it sounded better if I said I knew quite a few. I don't really think torrents are a sinking ship, are you joking, look at the companies that have switched to using the method for downloads. Not to mention the thousands of torrent sites, private and public that are still up and running. FALSE ALARM PEOPLE, THE INTERNET HAS BEEN PUT OUT, PLEASE RETURN TO YOUR CUBICLE AND RESUME WORK POSTURE.

there were reports a long time ago that TPB guys were developing an alternative to torrents - a new decentralized file sharing system. would be quite funny if they dumped the torrent tracker for a huge amount of money and then just revealed this new protocol. unlikely though, i know.

You guys need to learn to read a bit better. TPB's not going anywhere, it's just becoming... less of a target.

exactly and torrents are still the way to go and there is no widely used method besides the bittorrent protocol.
TPB will outsource the tracker and everyone but the media wins ;)
Politicians and the media industry still don't know how the internet works. It's not a place you can forbid, filter or turn off. There is always a workaround. Keep in mind that the internet was created as a failover network that can survive a nuke ;)

Amen to that blackbox. Amen to that. not that a public tracker is what i use but its always a good backup - i still believe it will turn legal, atm the site seems to run fine aswell as the tracker, im guessing by august it will be gone (torrent-wise) or atleast "renamed" :)

i think it is time for an upgrade for The torrent protocol.
I mean add search capability inside the protocol like ED2k and Gnutella without turning to a one of them

The piratebay site still works on my comp. plus they have even formed a political party in Sweden where they actually managed to get a seat in the European parliament cause lots of young people here are pretty pissed off at the government so many of the oppositional parties are trying to win votes now by saying they'll legalize torrent sharing.

What they are doing is an echo of napster. They worked then they became popular then they are becoming a business and then they will fail. When it comes to actually selling stuff legally online - nothing will beat the giants. Pirates shouldn't meddle in legal endeavours just like CEO's shouldn't meddle in illegal actions. Am I worried? - a bit as this ruins our/their pirate image to the non-pirates but I will only switch out pirate bay for another one of the other gazillion sites with better search engines.

In the end actually the creators of pirate bay are receiving what they should get for the years of work they put into tPB and someone else will take over.

I was thinking, because it’s a bit of a problem. Where will get broadcast companies like ShowTime (which produces a lot of good shows in my opinion) there money from, if it where completely legal to download their productions without paying for it. I think the answer is simple. And it is already working itself out. Product placement, advertisement built in, in the show itself. If they put too much in, nobody will watch it so it will balance itself out. And it is already happening. I think it works fine. Even political agenda could be placed in shows, why not (you can choose for yourself, watch it or not). Again this is already happening. So I believe legalizing free sharing of film doesn’t have to be a downfall of companies who finance them. The only thing they need to do is reorganize.

Torrents are gonna ruin it for us I all. I have never used a torrent and my first download was on a 1200baud modem. :)
