The series centers on 17-year-old Joshua "J" Cody, who moves in with his freewheeling relatives in their Southern California beach town after his mother dies of a heroin overdose. Headed by boot-tough matriarch Janine "Smurf" Cody and her right-hand Baz, who runs the business and calls the shots, the clan also consists of Pope, the oldest and most dangerous of the Cody boys; Craig, the tough and fearless middle son; and Deran, the troubled, suspicious "baby" of the family. Also prominent are Nicky, J's steady girlfriend, and Catherine, Baz's de facto wife and the mother of their 3-year-old daughter, Lena.
It isn't long before Josh is pulled into the family's life of indulgence and excess, but he soon discovers that it's all being funded by criminal activities. Joining the family comes with more danger and excitement than he might be ready to handle.

That cardboard box was just asking for it!
LOL. Smurf's pissed that they didn't put her in a nicer box.
Angela might mistake package for cocaine and end up snorting Smurf....
Is the season over? I wanted to see a big showdown caused by the void left by Smurf.
:3 no respect for the dead!
Yeah the season's over, all that will be coming next season. Should be fun with everyone all trying to take control.

That image of the wig on a box is a hilarious and so creative! Did you make it? RIP Smurf!
I sprayed coffee all over my keyboard when I saw this. The brassy blond wig and frowny face drawn on the sad Amazon Basics Crematorial Cardboard box - perfection! Thank you!

Smurf's dead? I wasn't caught up!
actually...I was! Too addicted to this marvelous show. Who will boss all those boys around? Ellen Barkin did such an amazing job being creepy, smart, cunning, devious, etc. Her unnatural love for her sons crossed boundaries that made my skin crawl lol. Love seeing the storyline of her younger years and finally starting to meet some of her son's fathers.
Maybe there was a time machine in that bunker. Would allow writers take the show to another level and have young sexy volatile Smurf tele-transport into to the future, replacing dearly departed Smurf-in-a-Box.
RIP Smurf!

Thank you!
Whoa. That would have been a real bummer.
Glad I'm not the only one into this show. I agree with all your takes...

Good that you like it! Sons of Anarchy didn't resonate with me either, good that there's enough variety out there. :)

Waaay too much drama in the trailer already, won't watch the show.
I get it. It's not for everyone. It's probably all the "heists" episodes that do it for me. I dig all that planning and preparation for a "job", then the tension of trying to see it through as timed and planned, without allowing the "human condition" or unforeseen obstacles to interfere. Characters are interesting. Also, it's set in Oceanside/Vista, CA, right outside Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. I spent about 3 years there and all the references and Tijuana mentions provide a very nostalgic connection for me, personally.
Unaware of excessive drama, but there is some weird uneasiness vibe throughout. Mainly caused by Ellen Barkin's character. Again, not everybody digs that, or the Cali-beachy eye-candy reputation it's garnered. People say it's Sons of Anarchy - like. I never saw that enough to compare the two...
