Centres on Martin Best, a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. Unfortunately, Martin's blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, and he quickly alienates the town, even though he's all they've got.
I'd say both shows have their pros and cons and are equally funny.
I guess it's just a preference of which type of humour (american or british) you like more :)
For me I think Best Medicine makes a better job of introducting characters.
Doc Martin on the other hand handles the medical stuff better.

can anyone tell me if its a clone of doc martin or just based on the bbc show?
a clone would takes all the best things that happened in the other series
and "based on" would only take the premise and very few of the exact same situations.
i have started watching doc martin and its bbc style good.

8 episodes in and it continues to grow on me, which is what a TV show is supposed to do, right? :)
Solid show with good, loveable characters and a simple premise.
Still haven't had time for the UK version, but I think I will wait and finish this one first.

Gotta agree the UK version - 'Doc Martin' starring Martin Clunes is a much better show. It ran for 10 seasons and just ended a year or 2 ago. The US version is still a fun watch, but stepping into a role OWNED by Clunes is a tough row to hoe.
