The show centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: he hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he'll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.
Loved seeing Cress Williams return to the role of Black Lightning for this weeks' Flash... it had some good character moments as well as some nice interactions. I hope Jefferson sticks around for the next episode.

A fair criticism. It was verydrama... even soapish, which is the aspect of comics that actually got me hooked on 'em, in general, as a kid soooo yeah... I was in my element :cool:

Black Lightning is returning to TV with the 5-part Arrowverse crossover within CW's The Flash, which started last night. And I think it's high time someone starts a discussion about this, the most consistent and best crafted of the CWDCU series...
I, for one, cannot believe the CW would cancel it's most inclusive and well plotted series, even if it wasn't getting the highest ratings. In my opinion Black Lightning was more important than just the immediately quantifiable return, it was a real effort to reach an either group of fans who have been generally ignored. And unlike Arrow or Supergirl, which stayed past their expiration dates, BL had barely realized it's premises by the end of the series.
I remember when Luke Cage came out and it broke NETFLIX and we were all like, see a black lead superhero series isn't a bad idea! Unfortunately that series lost focus and, even if it ended strong, never was able to pick up that momentum again. However Black Lightning never lost its thrust nor focus. Mostly because, unlike other CWCDU series Black Lightning spent all four of it's seasons working towards one end, despite the threat of the week, and that was bringing Tobias Whale, the man who killed Jefferson's father, to justice for all his crimes. And by doing that free the city from Whale's criminal empire.
