Baghdad Country Club
The show details the actions of a "soldier-turned-mercenary who opens the only watering hole in Baghdad's Green Zone at the height of the post-invasion Iraqi insurgency." Cinemax is probably hoping to capture some of that Bearman magic, considering the journalist's story "The Great Escape" was the basis for Best Picture winner Argo. No word yet on whether this show will act as a prequel to the rehab drama Team Downey has set up at Showtime, so that the Green Zone drinkers can return home and immediately enter the treatment facility. After all, shared universes are all the rage these days.
Topless Prophet
This 10-part, unscripted late-night series goes behind the scenes at several Detroit-area "gentlemen's clubs" owned by Alan Markovitz, a 30-year veteran of the rough-and-tumble world of adult entertainment and the self-proclaimed "most successful strip-club entrepreneur in America." In addition to showcasing the steamy action that goes on inside his clubs - including a "fetish night" promotion and the debut of two jittery novices recruited from Pontiac - Topless Prophet sheds light on the private world of Markovitz, whose success transforming rundown strip joints into lucrative gentlemen's clubs is rivaled only by his insatiable desire to stick it to those he feels have betrayed him. Even with the Motor City in bankruptcy, Alan and his clubs are thriving - but staying number one isn't easy.
SCTV Channel
This show was spun off from "SCTV Network 90" which was cancelled after two seasons on NBC. The same cast from 1982-83, with the exception of John Candy, appears on this 45-minute sketch comedy series. It all starts when "SCTV" mastermind Guy Cabellaro announces that he's turning his station into a pay cable channel. The results are amusing, as the same manic humor and wacky characters that made the old SCTV Network so great continued to thrive. Unfortunately, the show was too expensive to produce for Cinemax's tastes and it was cancelled after one year.
