The world is ruled by spirits, goblins and all manner of strange creatures. Human beings are persecuted, to the very point of extinction. One day, a golem and a lone human girl meet. This is a record of the pair; one a member of a ruined race, the other a watchman of the forest. It tells of their travels together, and of the bond between father and daughter.

One day, 15-year-old delinquent Oga Tatsumi finds a body floating down a river. The body splits open, and out comes a baby boy. The baby soon becomes attached to Oga. This baby, however, is not a normal baby, for he is actually the son of a demon lord.

For as long as he can remember Natsume Takashi has had the ability to see spirits called Youkai, but learned never to speak about it to anyone. After being bounced around from relative to relative he finally goes back to the village where his grandmother once lived. His grandmother also had the ability to see youkai and when he receives a book called the Yujincho or 'Book of Friends' he finally understands why he can see these spirits. His grandmother collected the spirits, and made them sign contracts and that is what is keeping them close to Natsume. Takashi finally has a purpose, to free the names of the spirits from the book. With Nyanko, a youkai trapped in the body of a 'Lucky Cat' statue, as his teacher and protector he sets out to empty the book and protect it from those who would take it's power for themselves.

Paxtown is a capital under the influence of drugs and corruption, torn apart by inequality and poisoned by the mafia. Here, trouble lurks at every corner. But all that was before everything fell apart. Before his friend Dave, the owner of the boxing club, was murdered. Overnight, Aldana becomes the protector of his friend's orphaned daughter, Siri. Those who killed Siri's father are now targeting her. They call themselves "The Order of the Lion". They are a religious sect much more dangerous than the cops or gangsters that usually cause trouble in Paxtown. These nutjobs think Siri is the key to their "other world". Searching in Dave's past for what could have triggered such a shit storm, Aldana and Siri are drawn into a quest that overwhelms them, one in which the words "Valley of the King" - a mythological land of magic and demons - keep popping up.

This time, the responsibility falls on Chagum, the second prince of the New Yogo Kingdom. Chagum's father, the Emperor, believes this spirit is the reincarnation of a demon defeated by his ancestor, the first Emperor, and secretly orders his son killed. Chagum's mother, the Second Empress, fearing for her child's safety convinces a female bodyguard for hire, Balsa, to protect Chagum. Balsa accepts fully knowing that this assignment may be her last, but she does so to atone for sins of her past.

A modern fantasy based on Japanese Shinto legends. Suzuhara Izumiko is a 15-year-old girl, who has been raised and protected in a shrine deep in the Kumano mountains. She is quite shy and destroys all the electric devices she touches. When she begins to think about going out of the mountains and moving to the city, her guardian Sagara Yukimasa recommends her to enter a high school in Tokyo and forces his son Miyuki to serve Izumiko for life. Miyuki and Izumiko repel each other but their relationship begins to change when a terrifying accident occurs on the school excursion. Izumiko learns her fate as the last representative (yorishiro) of a Himegami goddess and Miyuki learns of his duty as a guardian Yamabushi of Izumiko.
