This show exhibits a controlled experiment that makes us think how we would survive in the midst of a catastrophe. It tries to see exactly what we would need to survive and rebuild society under the worst circumstances.

The year is 2061, when space travel is now possible and commercially viable, and the students of Caird High School embark on their Planet Camp. But soon after Group B5 arrived at their planetary camp site, a mysterious and unforeseen sentient light sphere warps its 9 members into outer space, stranding them 5012 light years away from their home planet. With the discovery of an old, unmanned spaceship nearby, the students must stay strong, manage their limited resources and remain united in the darkness of space, so that all of them can survive their long and likely perilous trek back home aboard the Astra.

Those who survive for 40 days filled with gut-wrenching journeys and demanding physical challenges will split the money as their prize. The catch? They can buy all of the survival supplies and creature comforts they desire, but everything is crazy expensive (think $30K for a tent), all decisions to make a purchase require a group majority and the cost comes out of their shared prize money.

15 contestants leave their current lives to create their own ideal mini-society while being followed by hundreds of cameras. They will spend one year in a place where no rules or laws exist. All the participants - aka "inhabitants" - in the show have been given is an empty barn on an undeveloped piece of land, some cows and chickens, water and electricity connections, one phone and a sum of cash to create their environment and survive for the first few months. Like in Big Brother, the Utopia participants nominate fellow inhabitants for elimination in a process in which the viewers also vote to nominate a contestant for elimination.

With bare hands and basic tools, 12 strangers are tasked with building a 330 metre bridge across a lake over 17 days. But as always, there's a catch - and the mysterious glowing beacon is the key.
