Rugged Justice
In the vast terrain of Washington State, Department of Fish and Wildlife Police Officers are on the front lines. From the city, to the coast, to the desert, this elite force protects both wildlife and people. No matter the danger, these Officers tirelessly enforce the law. WDFW Police Officers patrol more than 42 million acres of rugged terrain, half of it heavily forested and filled with wild animals - and often-dangerous people. The department's dispatchers relay more 225,000 calls annually. Each day brings new challenges and extreme danger. Whether tracking and capturing bears and cougars with the one-of-a-kind Karelian Bear-Dog Unit, busting poachers along the USA-Canada border or going undercover to take down traffickers in the illegal animal parts trade, the officers of Rugged Justice risk life and limb to protect natural resources and serve the people of Washington.
Treetop Cat Rescue
Every day in Western Washington State, wily felines scale massive trees only to find themselves stranded high off the ground. Skilled tree climbers Shaun Sears and Tom Otto are prepared to do whatever it takes to get these cats down and reunite them with their owners. Shaun and Tom, brothers-in-law and tree arborists, run Canopy Cat Rescue, a highly skilled, two-man operation trained to climb dangerously tall trees to save desperate, stranded cats. Over the past two years, they have rescued nearly 500 kitties from treetops as high as 165 feet. Hooked in with top climbing gear, Shaun and Tom face hazards ranging from buzzing beehives, dead branches and unpredictable weather. Each cat is different, and no two rescues are ever the same. Tom and Shaun must channel their inner kitty to coax the frightened felines out of potentially climbing higher.
