Kaaa-Me-Haa-Me-Haaa!! :) - Everytime they say his name I can't stop thinking about Dragonball Z.
With Episode 3+4 they made the unfortunate decision of "1 Year Later" which I am not a fan of.
The amount of characteres you have to keep track off keeps increasing, which I am also not a fan of.
And that "accounting for modern times" is getting more intrusive than I had hoped for.
But the overall story keeps going strong...
Even the father watched them canoodling in the tent...wtf? I get tradition and all but come one, this could've been a better moment to account for modern times than listening for the 3rd to Kaʻahumanu saying "I don't want to get married"...
Speaking of, if she didn't want to get married they could've at least given her something else she wants to do with her live...but (accounting for modern times) she feels like a spoiled brat who doesn't know what to do with her life.
I think they should've completely separated the two storylines within these two episodes. First show Ka'iana's journey through the world and back home and in episode 4 show what's going on in Hawai'i and Mau'i.
Filmed across Hawaii and New Zealand, Chief of War is as ambitious in its scope and scale as it is in its storytelling. Guided by cultural experts and consultants, authenticity shaped every frame of the series. “It felt holistic,” says showrunner, executive producer and co-writer Doug Jung. That ethos, he explains, eliminated “guesswork” or well-intentioned but inaccurate choices. “There was always a right way. We aimed for that, while also obviously accounting for modern times.”
That last sentence though :)

I watched a trailer and it looked so corny I couldn't even entertain the thought. I just could see... artificial... for lack of a better word.
corny - Urban Dictionary
corny: who try to make themselves look good but really are .

First two episodes look pretty good. Good cast and decent characters.
Don't know much about the history of the islands and how accurate the "based on a true story" is. But I do believe Jason Momoa wouldn't have signed up for it if they wouldn't make an honest effort :)
Looks to me like the first two episodes serve more as an intro and the main story is starting with EP03.
They could've given us some more backstory for the characters, especially the supporting characters. It does feel a bit rushed.

Yes, all depends on how accurate the story is...according to the internet at least the overall story is.
