She's struggling to make ends meet, juggling two jobs, in a police canteen and a local bar, while also doing her best to support her Deaf mum, Julie. When DC Ashleigh Francis calls on Alison to lip read the conversations of some dangerous criminals, she is plunged into a new and exhilarating world.

Alison's interpretation of the gang's clandestine meetings quickly become key to unlocking the police investigation. But Alison's feelings about the case become complicated when she finds herself drawn to Liam, one of the main suspects. Alison knows she's putting herself at risk by agreeing to work with the police, and when things threaten to spill over into her personal life, she knows she should step away. Came across this show because I follow Charlotte Ritchie from on this site. Good to see her on screen again.

I think it's a great show, really good at building suspense...but it's another one with only 6 Episodes for a Season - which is disappointing since they could've spent a lot more time on character background.

I like the main character in the show, but I am four episodes into the show and barely know anything about why she is doing all of this.
The simple answer would be of course because it's exciting...but funny enough, this would also be the most boring answer.

Same goes for the coppers - especially with DC Francis. Since she is Alison's handler, a little bit of background would be nice.

The only thing that felt a bit weak was right at the beginning of the first episode when DC Francis says "all of our usual lip readers are busy on other jobs". This implies they have a handfull of lip readers available, just not at that time.

So I get why they asked her the first time, but after that shouldn't become one of their official lip readers available?
This could've also made a great story progression. She translates for them a couple of times, then a official lip reader becomes available and they tell her they don't need her anymore. That's when she decides to be pro-active.
