The story is set in an alternate world called Geminar, where countries have fought endless wars with replicas of humanoid Seikishi weapons that they found in ancient ruins. 15-year-old Kenshi Masaki, the half-brother of Tenchi Muyo! protagonist Tenchi Masaki, is summoned from another world to Geminar.

Seina Yamada is the most unlucky guy in the World. To make things worse, bad luck always seems to occur to those around Seina as well. His luck may be changing though. Seina is one of the first earthlings admitted into the GP, and he has tons of girls chasing after him. Will Seina be able to survive? Find out on Tenchi Muyo! GXP.

Although this TV series was released after the Tenchi Muyo OAVs, everything is different. Tenchi Universe is like an alternative version of the whole Tenchi saga. Several girls coming from different parts of the galaxy somehow manage to squeeze themselves into Tenchi's once ordinary life. There's Ryoko, the notorious space pirate; Aeka, the first princess of the planet Jurai; Mihoshi and Kiyone, a pair of bumbling space detectives... add a crazy scientist, another alien princess, some menacing enemies and you've got a madcap and adventure-filled series that is Tenchi Universe. But what's this? It looks like Tenchi himself is decended from alien royalty too!

Tenchi Masaki was a normal 17-year old boy - until the day he accidentally released the space pirate Ryoko. She had been sealed in a cave 700 years ago, due to the locals' suspicions that she was a demon. In a series of events, many more alien girls show up at the Masaki household. Tenchi learns much of his heritage he never knew about while dealing with the alien girls - each of whom has some sort of romantic interest in him.
