Jo, a young journalist, is stunned to learn that an attempted murder has taken place in her hometown of L'Artuby, nestled in the Verdon Gorge. She is devastated to discover that the victim is none other than Mathilde, a close childhood friend, who has been in a coma since the attack. The circumstances of the tragedy particularly intrigue her: when some villagers, alerted by the screams, managed to enter the victim's room, she was alone.
