Here is something I've been experimenting with recently - show discovery through AI!

Try it out and see how it works for you. Don't hesitate to ask it broadly or for a very specific types of shows - even if you need to describe it in multiple paragraphs - you can.

For now, this is a Premium members only feature, but good news is Premium is free to try for 30 days (even if you had the trial before) and it's very cheap after - while giving you great features and supporting my efforts here.

My testing shows huge potential, but I'm still tinkering with it and figuring out where to link/integrate it on Next Episode.

So yeah, give this new feature a spin and let me know how it works for you!

Edit: There was a bug that was causing it to load forever for some queries. It's fixed now!

I tried it, and it was only shows that I was aware of. That is ok for those who need it. I will continue to use "Upcoming -> 1st season -> Exclude my shows" as I have a big backlog and will only consider new shows.

Been playing with this, it's a really cool feature. Very handy for finding new shows you may have missed.

Queries such as "Shows where the main character is dead" returns a few good suggestions.

PLEASE tell me that AI or other sites do(es) NOT have access to our watchlists unless explicitly allowed by pressing the "discover"-Button !?

... oh, and please add information on which AI that is and a link to their privacy policy

@bananijoe - depends on what you type. Some words like 'my', 'watchlist', 'personalized' will trigger it to add your watchlist to the query and send it to the AI API.

It is 100% anonymous though (the 3rd party API doesn't get any other data than the query itself).

And no, it doesn't get the ratings.

I put in "scifi shows like the x-files" and excluded my watchlist. It stuck on loading forever... haha

It's a nice feature, but be prepared for lots of wasted cpu/gpu cycles for bored users' unnecessary queries where they (or rather we) search for stupid things. I like the fact that "shows with lots of fart jokes" results are 95% of my watchlist, seems like i'm a man of culture lol

When you say "no, it doesn't get the ratings", does that mean it takes all of our watchlist into account without discrimination?
If so, I think it could be useful to ask it to recommend stuff based on our 4 & 5 star for example, to avoid recommendations based on shows we didn't like
edit: I would also consider not taking into account shows we've stopped tracking

That's great! I had already been using GPT a bit to do this, so it saves me some effort to have it already inside Next Episode.

Is the amount of results limited? I tried a couple things out and never got more than ten results, with or without my watchlist. Even just "cop shows" gave me only 10?

A very fine idea!!

Tried it, and here are my 2c.

1. We need to exclude shows from showing up (without adding them to the watchlist)

2. I find suggestions very limited as it only suggested 2-3 shows or even fewer when looking for suggestions in anime (1).

3. I would like to have the option to "reiterate", similar to how you can do with chatgpt, when for example the AI provides a list and then you curate it further, or continoue the conversation..."i didn't like this show, can you recommend something more aligned etc..."

@WilliamDrakeMcGregor - no it's not limited, but by default it gives top 10. in your query, include the number of results you want and it should obey

@Easycore - not much to do about 1 and 2 for now, 3 sounds doable - I'll see what I can do

Nothing in the genre beats David Simon's police shows (The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Street, We Own This City).

That said - Bosch is as close as it gets - not only in realism and quality but vibe as well!

Bosch - a high quality crime solving drama on Prime Video

Also don't miss the spin-off Bosch: Legacy which is basically a continuation of the same show.
