Homepage Update - Next Episode

Mon Apr 21, 2014 - Homepage Update

Face-lifted our homepage a little! Everything is bigger, easier to read and (hopefully) nicer.
For comparison - here is how it used to look, and ~~here~~ here - how it looks now.
Site menu and left and right columns are next for an update. Then the other internal pages.
Let me know if you like/dislike the update and if you have any other comments, suggestions or requests!
Update: Images are now smaller, show name is back. How do you like it now?

Would be better to let the user choose the font size. I find this too big - I can't see everything at a glance. It's not bad, but user choice of font size is the way to go.

I liked the previous one better. I can't view everything at one glance. There is also no difference in shows that i follow, and shows that i don't. (Maybe a different color for titles of show that i follow?)

Also there is a lot of whitespace left open. (It's not always 4 boxes side by side, one row is missing the first three).

Its nice but I agree that the old smaller font was better... It might be easier to read but I liked seeing everything at a quick glance.

I feel there is a problem with this layout when the following setting is turned on: "Include shows not in my watchlist when in their 1st season". It doesn't allow you to identify which shows you follow and you have to scroll a lot to navigate to tomorrow's/yesterday's episodes.rnMaybe the old layout is better for when this setting is turned on and the new layout for when it is turned off?

There may also be a problem with shows that do not have their show name in the image, when one wants to quickly identify the show.

Other than that - it looks great!

EDIT: Thinking more about it. The "show first season" setting may not be necessary if I just look into "what's hot" once in a while. :P

Fixed the bug where some rows were missing some of the shows, and seemed empty.

@Sleuteltje, @psypraq - Just fixed - the shows you follow have their episode name in orange (for easier identification).

If you mouse over a show it'll show you the name (for the shows that don't have their name on the image).

I like the old one better.. i think the picture is too big for the font (name beneath it)..

The new font size sucks... it's way too big.

Plus there's no spacing between lines and even more shows with long titles are taking two lines.

i like the new look but i'd like the name of show's to be shown like it was before other then that i enjoy the new look a lot ^^

The old style was better and here are the points why:

First of all I can't find myself with titles of new episodes, sometimes I have no idea which show it is until I hover over the picture of the show. You title the name of the episode and not of the show which is a confusing change.

The pictures look a little bit too big than needed, perhaps an option for the user to change the size of the font/pictures would be better and this option would best be located on the same page and not in the settings page.

The name of the episodes can stay but you need to add the name of the shows too.

eh? ok on the face lift but... put it as an option! there was no need for scroling before, now I have to. I like my life simple... Others probably too...

I don't like it at all, I don't see the use for the big pictures, actually why show the pictures of the shows at all? I really don't understand, the name of the show already does the trick.

This update only makes my screen to small for a decent overview.

Ok. Brought back the show name, reduced the size of the picture and re-arranged the page a little. Still liking better the old look?

Orange on white is generally a bad idea as well (two light colors). The textsize is of course a preference but as such I prefer the old smaller one as well.

wow, was thinking what bug is this at first lol - I guess it just takes a little getting used to. There is certainly space enough for a larger font. And concerning the colors those are what I associate with NE so no need to change that - everything is good like it is now! Any plans on making skins btw? :)

Guys, I really don't know what "it's too big" means.

Is it the font, the image, both? Are the old ones "perfect"?

I know we're all used to the smaller images and font and change is always difficult at first, so give it some more time and if you still don't like it - give a bit more detailed feedback :)

If you are keeping the font size, then the line spacing needs to be increased.

I choose not to see photos and just have the text from my settings - the font size is one level too large.

Generally, I like it. :)

Something I would like to see is the ability to see more than today, tomorrow & yesterday's episodes. Sometimes I forget to check every couple of days and I have to hunt for episodes I've missed by guessing at the watch list on the left.

Update: never mind… I'm an idiot, I see the list on the right hand side.

Why is it that all site upgrades aim to make everything bigger, in order to fit less onto a screen?

The current look (after a bit of a shrinkage) is fine, but PLEASE don't use this font/size for the episode list on the right. I like to be able to actually read the whole list in one screen without having to scroll.

While I prefer the smaller font size, I don't mind hitting Ctrl-minus once or twice, so I won't harp on that, but others have mentioned the cluttered look (please increase line spacing) and the shade of orange (it's hard to read, please do something about the contrast -- if you're in love with the shade, I suggest a text-shadow) and I agree with those points.

Not keen on the large font size, I do prefer the old size. Like someone else suggested, being about to select the size ourselves would be a nice option.

No don't like it the font is too big even for my old eyes. Please let us choose font size, too much scrolling now required.

My suggestion is just make the site dynamically expand to your resolution. I have a 1080p monitor and I am sure most on here probably have close or that res, this would eliminate the 3inch blue bars on the sides, thus allowing for more room and spacing to support the larger images and text. You could still have the blue on the sides but maybe keep it to an inch or so.

i actually liked the new layout. Maybe make it so people can choose between the old and new style?
