Slight show details rearrangement

For active shows, the Previous Episode and Next Episode sections are now moved above Show Info.

Also, on desktop - Next Episode is now on the left and Previous Episode is on the right (swapped them).

It'll probably take some getting used to, but I think this arrangement makes more sense. Thoughts?

Left = back (previous) + right = next (forward), thats the way it is done everywhere since day one in computers, every program, every software, even in real life, left hand back, right hand forward. To make it just the other way arround as elsewhere makes sense? Are you actually serious, really? Jeeez...

I don't like the next episode on the left and the previous one on the right. Maybe because I'm so used to the old way.

The episodes above show info is ok. Though will also take getting used to.

Agreed that Previous (left), Next (right) makes perfect sense.

That's why it's been like that.

But moving it up the page, I believe it makes even more sense to prioritize the most important information (which is the Next Episode section) and put it in the first spot you'd look - on the left on desktop and on mobile - on top of the Previous Episode section.

I like this change. Makes sense. Remember all: the Next and Previous sections are primarily for information, not navigation, so the importance of the information is the driver as @santah said. Thank you!

I must say I usually like your updates, but both of these make no sense whatsoever.

Moving episode info up: Starting at the top the page, you had the "Show Overview" with the graphic and the show description. Then you flowed into the "Show Info" section with the important details about the show like when it airs, what channel, whether it's returning or cancelled, links to IMDB/TheTVDB/Forums, etc... After that you had a nice "Previous/Next Episode" section. Then the "Episode Guide and Summaries" which I find really helpful. Now you've broken up the flow. Formerly: Show Overview to Show Info to Episode Prev/Next to Episode guide. Now: Show Overview to Episode Prev/Next back to show for the Info section then back to episodes for the guide section. Basically, you've completely broken the flow of the page.

Swapping Prev/Next: Why? To quote you: "Agreed that Previous (left), Next (right) makes perfect sense. That's why it's been like that."

Honestly, change for change's sake is not necessarily a good thing. I can get used to the Prev/Next switch even if I don't like it now, but breaking up the flow of the page is just wrong.

You will likely get many split opinions on this one. This site has information available in different formats spread across different sections. This affords the user the ability to use the site in many different ways. Different approaches, same result.

My personal opinion is Show Info should be at the top. That is the section I use the most and now it is at the bottom on desktop and requires scrolling to see it. I use the Subtitle and Search areas more than anything other than the calendar.

The Next and Previous stacked on top creates a lot of unused PC screen space to their right. I would love this to take up less room and be an "at a glance" thing instead.

I am ambivalent about whether the Next or Previous should be first. I think this will vary by user. I'm fairly certain that I use Previous more often than Next but I definitely use both.

Swapping the Previous & Next - No, really dont like that, and no, it doesnt make sense to me.

This feels like change for the sake of change, have lots of people asked for this ?

IMO, the next and previous ordering was more intuitive the way it was before. I don't necessarily hate moving it above the show info, except that pushes my custom search links pretty far down the page, but that might just be me.

I want to gather some more opinions and then I may revert the change and either make it optional or enable it for some users (for example unregistered members).

It's a relatively big change that requires getting used to and if it doesn't add value for most of you - I'll take this into account, don't worry.

That swap looks also weird to me, working in web development since 20+ years I honestly never saw an inversion in what corresponds to a (limited) view of a timeline-like information.
Of course could live with it, but it's counter-intuitive imho.

Well I would agree with the other commenters on the show info being on top, this makes since to see when and where to view a show and then going into the episode information. Where I would disagree would be on the next/previous information. Having the next episode come directly in line with the show info makes perfect since. I think what is coming on next and what time is most important than what has already aired, having that on the right is much better.

So the only change I think you should make is putting Show info back above the episode info and keep next/previous the same.

I think your idea of making it optional for user preference and customization is a good idea, either across all users or premium.

Finally, thanks for all the hard work and taking our opinions into consideration no matter what you decide.

swap the next previous back to as it was, we count from left to right this feels "back to front"

Santah, I normally like your changes, but not this one. In English, we read from left to right. If you write out the alphabet, you start with A at the left. In my mind, the passage of time goes in the same direction, left to right, so previous at the left and next to the right feels correct.

Honestly, I think this is rubbish for one main reason: MOST shows on this site are ended or have no available next episode info.
You are moving all the useful information below useless information for this very large majority of shows, which makes absolutely no sense.
The next episode being on the left kinda makes sense from your perspective of that's what you're looking for first, and I'm kinda 60% agreeing with it. But it's counter-intuitive in every other respect, since (again) the majority of languages on the planet read from left to right, and understand left as back and right as forward, so from a UI perspective it feels like a negative move.

My suggestion to you is spend more time with family and friends and less with just messing with things because you can. The site worked just fine before and really didn't need these changes.

I prefer the way the rest of the internet does it: back on the left and forward on the right, so previous on the left and next on the right. If it's a change that is really needed, I'd rather have it as a choice in my preferences.
