Nothing in the genre beats David Simon's police shows (The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Street, We Own This City).

That said - Bosch is as close as it gets - not only in realism and quality but vibe as well!

Also don't miss the spin-off Bosch: Legacy which is basically a continuation of the same show.

I just finished Forbrydelson 3 which was almost better than the longer first season. scandi noir has a real grittiness and coldness to it. Im also partial to the old Prime Suspects with Helen Mirren. Great gritty crime dramas

Excellent recommendations. I finally completed both Bosch and Bosch: Legacy a few months back and thoroughly enjoyed them both.

I avoid watching law enforcement dramas, but I greatly appreciate the editorial recommendations in general!

Michael Connelly is a great author, and with Bosch, he has created a wonderful character. The choice of actor to play the character in a TV adaptation is very important, and I cannot imagine a better choice than Titus Welliver.
