Ey, so yeah - the snow is here :) I'd like to use that opportunity to announce 2 more little things:
on your Watchlist page, you can now sort by "recently added".
we now have more than 5000 TV show trailers on Next Episode! I feel reaching this milestone is worth noting and celebrating as all those trailers are being manually hunted down, added and are checked on a daily basis (for removals, country restrictions or other youtube video problems) and replaced with new ones when needed.
Suggestions for missing (but on YouTube) trailers are much appreciated - please don't hesitate to get in touch!
As last year - if the snow here bothers you - you can follow this link to get rid of it. Cheers!
We used to have 2 separate lists of hidden shows - one for the Homepage and one for the Top Charts.
To unify and tighten up this functionality on Next Episode and make show discovery easier:
There is now only one list of hidden (ignored) shows
Hidden shows management has been moved to settings/sitewide (visible there when you have hidden shows)
Browse section is now also filtered against your hidden shows (and you can hide from it)
I tried to make this update as painless for everyone as possible, but in case you've carefully curated your previous "hidden" lists and this somehow messed it up - drop me a line in here and I'll look into it and fix it.
Hide show buttons are not visible on mobile so try this on a desktop browser and let me know what you think!
Streaming services availability on shows details pages is now available to all users!
Check out how it works and change your country through the little orange gear icon (if not auto-detected properly).
Another change I wanted to make for a long time is to the homepage Discover Other Great Shows widget:
The Upcoming tab is now replaced with a Premiering Soon one, which is effectively the same, but displays the most popular shows premiering in the next 30 days (before it didn't have the 30 days range).
I believe this change makes the purpose of the tab clearer and more useful to discover new great shows.
Please let me know how those work for you and if you have any comments or suggestions!
You can now easily see where all your movies and episodes are available to stream:
There is now a new menu item in your settings called "Stream on".
By default, Streaming Services Availability is turned on for show details pages only, but you can now toggle it on or off for each section it's available for.
If you turn it on for Episodes or Movies, there may be a slight delay in the initial page load for those sections (as it scans for streaming availability, depending on your locale, for the first time).
The Movies and Episodes implementation will not look great on mobile as it is still in a beta state and work in progress for now. I'll be working on it in the coming days.
Please let me know how it works for you and if you find those additions useful!
In partnership with Justwatch - we now list the services a show is available to stream on - in your country!
This is a Premium members only feature for now and I'm yet to integrate it into our Movies section.
It currently supports 44 countries and the list of countries will continue to grow.
(if not properly detected, you can set the streaming providers country in your profile settings)
You can see how it looks like and what it shows, for example, for Curb Your Enthusiasm in different countries:
The icons lead directly to the respective streaming provider page where you can watch the show in your country.
Along with Movies integration, I'm figuring out how to best take advantage of that data, like integrating it into the episodes tracking page, adding it to filters and notifications. You have ideas for further integrations?
Check it out on any show on the website and let me know how it works for you and if you find it useful!
After the recently announced "follow Actors" feature, to unify and tighten up the functionality of the site - I've just launched some major updates and additions:
in addition to channels and actors - you can now also follow show creators (like this one) and use them to filter the Browse and Top charts or get notifications for new shows from them
you can now turn on a new trailers notification in your settings to get notified when a show from your watchlist gets a trailer
to better accommodate for the growing list of available site and email notifications, I've reworked the notification settings page to be simpler and more functional
the site search can now be used to find actors and show creators and finally sports a pagination. Yey!
Most of these new features are available to our Premium members only. If you haven't already - now is a great time to check out Premium - it's free to try for a whole month and as you can see - it keeps getting better!
Personally, I have found following channels, actors and creators and discovering new shows through them to be really useful and enjoyable. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Any feedback is much appreciated!
