Those About to Die is a large-scale drama set within the spectacular, complex, and corrupt world of gladiatorial sports in Ancient Rome. The series introduces an ensemble of diverse characters across the many layers of Roman society where sports, politics, and business intersect and collide. The large scale Ancient Rome gladiatorial epic is inspired by the nonfiction classic from acclaimed author Daniel Mannix.

Edmond Dantes, a sailor falsely accused of treason, is imprisoned in the Château d'If off Marseille. After escaping, and adopting the identity of the Count of Monte Cristo, he plans revenge against those who wrongly accused him.

In an industrial building on the outskirts of town, Police Commissioner Cagliostro (Lino Guanciale) takes in the scene before him: a man lies dead on the floor. In his ten-year career he's seen nothing quite like this. For the dead man is him - he is staring at his own murder scene. A vision of the future stops Cagliostro from exiting this world - he must stay to find his killer, because it is the only way to save the life of his wife, Anna (Gabriella Pession). With the help of Vanessa (Valentina Romani), a seventeen-year-old who discovers she is clairvoyant, Cagliostro embarks on his unusual investigation - can he sort his friends from his enemies before his premonition comes true, and, at the same time, remedy the mistakes he made while alive?

The show follows the workings of a special crime unit set up by the International Criminal Court to investigate serialized crimes that cross European borders and to hunt down criminals to bring them to justice.
