Trauma Room One
Trauma Room One features extreme surgery like no other, where death is just one millimetre away. The series takes us deep inside the gripping, high-stakes world of brain and spinal surgery at The Walton Centre in Liverpool which treats more than 18,000 patients a year.
The team of highly specialised surgeons work around the clock to save and transform patients' lives. From major trauma emergencies to life-altering operations, Trauma Room One puts us on the frontline of life-saving surgeries. But beware... it's not for the faint-hearted.
Justice (2011)
Filmed and set in Liverpool, the court is not a normal court. While the judge can still send people to prison, he has a range of other options at his disposal, such as community projects, educational workshops and drug rehabilitation programmes. Rather than a formal court, it is more like an open-plan office where the police, Crown Prosecution Service, probation service and youth offending team sit next to drug, alcohol, housing and debt advisors. Among them is probation officer Joe Gateacre (played by Gary Mavers) who has to work hard to get the local community to trust the new judge.
The established judicial system opposes the centre and the judge also faces problems from journalist Louise Scanlon (played by Gillian Kearney) and criminal Jake Little (played by Jake Abraham).
Shameless (UK)
The Radio Times described the drama as a Semi-Autobiographical series. It's about a shambolic family living on a Manchester estate. Eldest sister, Fiona, has to look after her five younger siblings after their mother's disappearance and there father became an alcoholic.
The Forsyte Saga
The loves that tear apart and bring together generations of an upper-middle class British family from 1906-1921. Based on the novels by John Galsworthy.
Liverpool 1
Liverpool 1 focused on Detective Constable Isobel De Pauli (Samantha Janus), a successful Metropolitan Police detective. Her partner's career move to Liverpool in turn sees De Pauli transferred there. Upon arrival she is partnered with introverted DC Mark Callaghan (Mark Womack), a no-nonsense officer brought up on the streets of the city he now polices; the opening sequence of the first episode culminates in Callaghan throwing a suspect from an apartment window.
The earlier episodes centre around the dual themes of the personality clash between De Pauli and Callaghan, coupled with the ongoing saga of the squad's pursuit of local gangster John Sullivan (played by Paul Usher). Callaghan's relationship with Sullivan - who is his cousin - and the interconnectedness of the city, are themes throughout the series.
Casualty
Casualty, styled as CASUAL+Y, is the longest running emergency medical drama series in the world, and the second-longest-running medical drama in the world behind America's General Hospital.
Emmerdale
A British soap opera. It was orginally called Emmerdale Farm but was renamed just Emmerdale in 1989. The central family on the show since the beginning has been the Sugdens.
