The Shards is part teenage coming of age, erotic thriller and exploration of the untamed and mysterious era of Los Angeles 1981, tracking a group of privileged high school friends as a serial killer strikes across the city.
It takes place at Rotterdam Home, a hospital for terminally ill teenagers. A group of patients begins to meet at midnight to share scary stories. Eventually they make a pact that whoever dies first will contact the others beyond the grave.
