Tidelands follows the story of a former criminal who returns home to the small fishing village of Orphelin Bay. When the body of a local fisherman washes ashore, she must uncover the town's secrets while investigating its strange inhabitants, who are a group of dangerous half-sirens, half-humans called "Tidelanders".

Joanna Chylka is capable, uncompromising, courageous and rebellious. In a legal world full of men, they do not give in to anything. When three-year-old Nikola Szlezyngier disappears without a trace, and the police do not find evidence of kidnapping, the main suspects become the child's parents. It is Chylka and her new apprentice Kordian Orynski who undertake to defend the marriage. All circumstantial evidence, however, indicates the blame of the Szlezyngers. Will lawyers manage to bring the case together to a happy final?

As befits a criminal riddle, their decryption is undertaken by a team led by the title prosecutor Kazimierz Proch (Jacek Koman). He is cooperating with the police commissioner Witold Kielak (Wojciech Zielinski) and forensic pathologist Ewa Sidlecka (Magdalena Cielecka).

Jack Irish (Guy Pearce) is a man getting his life back together again. A former criminal lawyer whose world imploded, he now spends his days as a part-time investigator, debt collector, apprentice cabinet maker, punter and sometime lover - the complete man really. An expert in finding those who don't want to be found - dead or alive, Jack helps out his mates while avoiding the past. That is until the past finds him.

Inspired by true accounts, this HBO miniseries focuses on a group of fictional characters caught up in the harrowing aftermath of the tsunami that devastated the coast of Thailand two years ago.
