Unscrupulous and arrogant murder detective Evert Bäckström finds himself with the hardest case he ever had when a skull pierced with bullet holes is found on an uninhabited island in the archipelago.
This is a story that fluctuates in time between 1987 and 2011. The more modern follows the aspiring police Olivia Rönning whose graduation work to solve a mystery of 1987 in which three girls were brutally murdered on an island.
Death of a Pilgrim centers around the unsolved murder of the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme in 1986. The story is based on the award winning triology "The Fall of the Wellfare State".

A corpse is found in an old water-filled shafts out on Skärsö, a fictional old military island in the Stockholm archipelago. The finding appears to be linked to a previous case detective CG Heather investigated.
