Set in the year 2050, Defenders of The Earth is a classic 80's series uniting some of the greatest fantasy heroes, Phantom, Mandrake, Lothar, and Flash Gordon . Together they defend their planet from the evil armada of Ming the Merciless, potentially the most evil and most feared being in the known galaxy.

The setting of the series was two years after the last episode of Batman, and to give it the whole time-jump feeling, many things in Gotham had changed. In the two years, Dick Grayson had retired from being Robin, and he traveled the world (like Batman) and returned to Gotham as Nightwing. Barbara Gordon became a full member of Batman's team as she became his main partner. Then, a new Robin, Tim Drake came into the gang and they became the knights of Gotham.
