Based on blogger Lindy West's memoir, Shrill follows Annie, a fat young woman who wants to change her life - but not her body. Annie is trying to make it as a journalist while juggling bad boyfriends, sick parents, and a perfectionist boss, while the world around her deems her not good enough because of her weight. She starts to realize that she's as good as anyone else, and acts on it.

A support group for people who think they have been abducted by aliens is the subject of a snarky feature piece by skeptical journalist Wyatt Jones. The more he digs into the oddballs' claims, however, the more confused, intrigued and seduced he becomes.

Jessica and Lennon have known each other for years and have been best friends almost their entire lives. Now they live on opposite sides of the country but when Jessica is forced to divorce, she must move back in with Lennon in NYC. The girls start enjoying their best friend time again but Lennon's boyfriend, Joe, isn't enjoying it as much.
