Kitchen Expedition is an hour-long travel/adventure show that uncovers the history behind some of the world's most fascinating foods. Chef and restauranteur Robert Irvine leads the expedition, traveling to the far reaches of the world and diving deep into the rich, unexpected history of common items like salt and chocolate, to more exotic ingredients like truffles and cinnamon.

Ten talented and successful home cooks from around the country compete in intense culinary challenges as they are mentored by some of Food Network's most popular chefs, while competing for a $50,000 grand prize. Hosted by Ted Allen, each competitor, with the guidance of their mentor, must compete challenges that would propose difficulties for even professional chefs, while elevating their culinary skills to make it to the finish line.

Returning champions are pushed to the limits with mind-blowingly impossible baskets in a four-part tournament. Restaurant: Impossible's Robert Irvine will serve as judge in the first three preliminary rounds, but he'll get the chance to face off against the final competitor in a wild-card round. The winner will earn $15,000 just for getting to the final round, but if the final competitor wins against Robert, he or she will pocket an additional $25,000 for a total of $40,000.

Robert Irvine has gathered eight aspiring restaurateurs for a bus road trip of a lifetime. Through a rigorous set of challenges, Robert will be looking at every aspect of their business acumen and testing all the skills needed to run their own restaurant. In the end, only one person will remain on the bus, ultimately dropped-off at their final stop: their very own restaurant.
