Yup, it would be sad if I didn't see it coming from the moment the show aired. Still a shame, it's a very good show :(

It's true what they say - if it's not comedy it'll get zero ratings on NBC.
Parenthood, which is fantastic.

a) Parenthood's 2.1/2.2 are not good ratings. True, it's bigger than Prime Suspect's right now, but during the showdown with The Good Wife, when Parenthood and The Good Wife aired opposite each other, the common wisdom was that both had the same, very low, ratings in the demo (The Good Wife had bigger overall ratings, i.e. more people actually watching).

The ratings were worse for The Good Wife because of its bigger ratings loss from its lead-in (NCIS and NCIS:LA) and because of the ratings bar that is much higher for CBS than it is for NBC. Basically most people said that anything with those ratings would be cancelled anywhere else except at NBC, because their ratings are in the shitter generally. Parenthood survives solely by the virtue of nothing else being better on NBC.

b) I would argue that Parenthood is a comedy as well - worst case it is a dramedy, not a serious, depressing cop drama like Prime Suspect and Life were. I have to praise NBC for picking good pilots to show, but the audience just isn't there and Prime Suspect's going to go the way of the Dodo and Life :(

I love the show, but I'm having a definite Life deja-vu. Only this time NBC is in worse shape, so there won't be a miraculous second season pick-up :( It's true what they say - if it's not comedy it'll get zero ratings on NBC.

Having seen the original Helen Mirren's DCI Jane Tennison Prime Suspect, was quite looking forward to this

The only thing that connects this version to the original was, her name is Jane, she's female and working within a male dominated environment where the word f*ck is replaced with fun, seriously, fun?

The rest of it may have been an episode of murder she wrote with a bit of blood and jessica fletcher getting her arse kicked by a suspect (would pay shitloads to see that!!)
Very poor, reflected by the poor ratings with it being nothing new and nowhere near originality
watch the original for its gritty realism, even after 20 years it still stands up as a good watch, new cop shows seem to be either bland or use non-existant tech

Thats my tuppence worth, i'll fun off now

I liked the pilot, but she has to loose that terrible hat.
