Adapted from a popular webtoon of the same name, Sweet Home is a 10-episode VFX/SFX filled thriller based on the unique world in which people turn into monsters that reflect their internal desires. Cha Hyun Soo, a reclusive high school student who moves into a new apartment called Green Home after a personal tragedy, faces a series of life changing situations that brings him out to the world to save others.
It's kind of like a Korean The Mist/Night of the Living Dead/Left4Dead mash-up.
It's very odd, lots of it I don't really get, maybe a lost in translation thing, or maybe I'm just a bit thick... But it's ok if you like monster-post-apocalyptic-survival-horror type things.
Too many low budget productions are limited not by SFX budgets but by acting, script and plotting.
I fully agree! At the same time, I guess all those great shows have spoiled me over the last few years, I'm not willing to overlook bad SFX if (close to) everything else isn't above average. :)

I feel that yes the money available for the CGI for the monsters was a potentially limiting factor. But the monster's are so off the wall it didn't detract from the show. For me at least. But I'm used to watching a lot of lower budget or at least old film where the money isn't there for decent CGI. Or it didn't exist at the time. Depends on expectations I suppose.
The thing about low budget stuff, and this don't necessarily apply to Sweet Home, is getting the basics right. Too many low budget productions are limited not by SFX budgets but by acting, script and plotting. Sweet Home got those right.

I watched the trailer recently, looked too cheap. Won't watch the show.
"Sweet Home" and "Alice in Borderland" were both released around the same time on Netflix, so i checked out both pilots and the "Sweet Home" pilot was not bad, actually pretty cool, except the cgi was a bit wonky and it got a bit too crazy for me at the end. So i went with "Alice in Borderland" instead and wasnt disappointed at all.
But if you don't mind bloody horror galore, this might be worth a look.

Apparently this South Korean horror is based on a webtoon. I've never seen that but this is rather good. I won't put a trailer link in as there is one on the page.
This blood drenched horror series (which is I believe a one off mini-series) is full of crazy. And just like Romero's film 'The Crazies' (ignore the 2010 remake, I've seen it, it's less horrific than the original from 1973 and just plain below average US horror) just go with it.
From the opening scenes I quickly realised that the shows creators didn't care how mental it got but they were damn sure that there was going to be blood, blood, more blood, body horror galore and monster's. Lots of monster's.
At times it's really quite bonkers but as I decided to just go with it wherever it decided to lead it was almost brilliant. Hard to fault it, you'd have to want to. It's great, give it a go

The relatively high IMDb rating surprised me, same thing with https://next-episode.net/alice-in-borderland-2020 (which I did watch) - weird...
Edit: It was already :)
