Bride of Istanbul is based on a real love story, that of a young beautiful singer Ülkü Üst and a young businessman Ali Sarpkan who fell in love and married in 1975.
Faruk is a young, rich and modern businessman, whose family is led by his mother Esma, a hard traditionalist and ultimate decision maker. Esma is planning to marry Faruk to İpek, but fate has other plans. Süreyya is a modern artist who lost her parents and was raised by her aunt. When a chance encounter gets Faruk and Süreyya together they fall in love at first sight and then proceed to get married without his family's approval. Faruk brings Süreyya to his 400-year-old family mason and the situation becomes more than a cultural conflict with Esma dead set in not accepting her.
