An ex-prisoner falls in love with a traditional comic storyteller's rendition of the story called "Shinigami" and becomes his apprentice.

Yakumo, who has never taken an apprentice before, accepts the eager ex-prisoner and nicknames him "Yotaro". Konatsu, Yakumo's ward, loved her father's storytelling but that path is not available for women.
